Israel's women 'team disappointingly opened the European Championship qualifying campaign when they lost in the opening round 62:56 to Latvia.
The team participates in the qualifiers even though it has already advanced to the championship itself, as both houses of the championship will be held in the country in the summer of 2023. Despite this, the basketball association wants the team to play in the qualifiers to connect and run the team under new national coach Sharon Drucker.
Despite the loss, the 1,560 fans who came to the Shlomo team hall also saw positive things.
Israel opened with a tremendous first quarter of 6:20 and showed why industry insiders claim that a talented generation has grown up who can do very beautiful things later on.
Above them all shines Jordan Gerzon, a 17-year-old guard at a height of 1.87 m who is a bit reminiscent of Danny Abdia in the style of play and in her abilities.
Gerzon does everything on the court - hits from any range, dribbles, knows how to play inside the color and also outside the arc.
In 24 minutes she scored 16 points and took 4 rebounds.
If she had not been embroiled in an offense problem, the outcome of the game might have been completely different.
Another player who can make a difference and was not at her best is captain Eden Rotberg who plays for the Liege Panthers from the Belgian league.
When the leading player puts up a statistical list of 11 points on 4 of 15 from the field, 3 turnovers and 2 assists it is very difficult to win.
It was the first game at home that also includes Sweden.
The next two qualifying windows will take place in November 2022 and February 2023 in which Israel will seek its first victory since February 2018.
