A 40-year-old woman was fined $3,500 at the Kowloon City Magistracy today for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulations (Cap. 599J).
The woman was accused of violating Article 19(E) of the Regulations without legal authority or reasonable excuse during the effective period of the restriction and testing announcement on January 26, 2021, and failed to undergo testing before the deadline.
According to the information, the government carried out a closed area test at No. 9-27 Pitt Street and No. 3 Tung On Street in Yau Ma Tei at 7 p.m. on January 26 this year. At that time, all people were required to be tested before midnight.
The government announced the next morning that a total of 330 residents were tested and one of them was diagnosed. The government also conducted a total of 306 home visits, of which about 93 households did not answer the door.
The Department of Health stated that failing to undergo testing during the period when the restrictions and testing are announced will constitute a criminal offence. Offenders can be fined up to 25,000 yuan and imprisoned for six months.
The spokesperson said that sentencing can give the society very clear information. The government will not tolerate those who violate relevant regulations and solemnly remind the public to abide by relevant regulations.
