The brand new vocational school in Weilheim has been occupied, the old school building is empty.

- "As of November 15th, the FOS / BOS in Weilheim will be the sole user of the building of the former vocational school in Weilheim," said district treasurer Norbert Merk when asked by the local newspaper on this subject.

Merk also made it clear: “The principle applies: Purchased as is.” In other words, extensive renovation of the building is not planned for the time being. Specifically, this means that money should be spent on fire protection and urgent security measures. Work on the lighting and the electrical system is also planned, the physics rooms are being refurbished "and one or two buckets of paint will certainly pop out to whiten the rooms," said Merk. Nevertheless: A general renovation will not do it,“For the six million euros mentioned, we will only buy a few more good usage options for a few years,” he says.

The future of the ailing south wing has not yet been decided

I mean: In a few years, the debate in the district council will be on how to create future-proof learning conditions for the students of the FOS / BOS.

Merk made it clear that the FOS / BOS would only take over the former main building of the vocational school and would not use most of the previous workshops there.

Only the electrical and metal workshops are to be refurbished and continued to operate.

There is no new furniture, instead the previous one should continue to be used.

The south wing in the direction of the train station is in such a bad condition that only a general renovation or demolition would be considered.

Is there a dormitory for trainees from the region?

In the past, the future use of the area on which the south wing stands had been discussed again and again.

The idea of ​​building a new building for the Agriculture Office and the agricultural school here, Merk said.

Now you have to calmly develop a usage concept for such a property.

A possible use haunts the corridors of the district office again and again: Analogous to the planned new construction of two apartment houses for the employees of the hospital GmbH in Schongau, such a building could also be built in Weilheim in place of the south wing.

For Merk, however, these considerations do not go far enough.

Because "We need living space not only for nursing staff, but also for trainees," says the district treasurer.

A modern vocational school, such as the one that the district has just opened in Weilheim, also includes “a supra-regional district” as a unique selling point.

In order to be able to train apprentices from the wider area in Weilheim, one also needs suitable living space that can be offered to them.

Merk made it clear, however, that these were only preliminary considerations of what could be done.

Only the usage concept can provide more precise knowledge.
