Island states are sinking into the sea, but the big nations would find "no answer": From the point of view of Development Minister Müller, the climate conference in Glasgow has achieved little so far. Today is her last day.

Federal Development Minister Gerd Müller (CSU) has sharply criticized the previous results of the UN climate conference in Glasgow.

"From the perspective of the developing countries, the current status of the negotiations is disappointing and absolutely inadequate," said Müller to the editorial network in Germany.

»The view is not global enough.

The poorest countries are in danger of being lost sight of. "

The topic of damage and losses due to climate change is receiving too little attention.

»It needs to be made much clearer that the developing countries are the main victims of climate change.

Glasgow has so far not given an answer, "said the CSU politician.

"The climate load must be balanced from rich to poor, and that also means significantly more support services to protect people from climate impacts such as droughts and floods," demanded Müller.

The minister also called for new mechanisms to stimulate investment in renewable energies in developing countries.

Billions, if not trillions, are needed here over the next few years.

The design of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change is also decisive.

Warning of "double crediting"

"Here opportunities must be created for private companies and investors to be able to count the emission savings from climate-friendly investments in developing countries - without double counting," said Müller.

Because it is "absolutely clear that the necessary investments cannot be made from public funds alone."

According to official planning, the UN climate conference in Glasgow is due to end on Friday.

However, an extension of the conference, as in previous years, is not ruled out.

On Thursday, negotiations between the almost 200 participating states stalled.

As »› Lame Duck ‹at the climate conference«

German environmental organizations criticized the appearance of the executive government at the climate conference.

"Germany was a 'lame duck' at the climate conference with a managing federal government," said the head of Greenpeace Germany, Martin Kaiser, the RND.

Among other things, he complained that the federal government had not joined the declaration on the end of internal combustion engines.
