A 10-meter sailboat crashed into the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier on Friday, November 12, about 70km south-east of the Hyères Islands, according to a statement posted on Twitter by the Maritime Prefecture of the Mediterranean.

The consequences of this accident are only material, no injuries are to be deplored.
At around 7:30 am, the aircraft carrier on its training exit off Toulon, detected the sailboat late at a very short distance.
Despite an attempt to maneuver to avoid the collision, the accident could not be avoided.
The mast of the sailboat then disintegrated from the hull.

Alone at the head of the sailboat, the skipper was found safe and sound.
Two Charles de Gaulle boats were mobilized to secure the Polish flag and prepare for towing to the port of Hyères.

A technical investigation is underway, as it always happens after a sea incident involving a navy ship
," the statement said.
The aircraft carrier will continue its training trip despite the shock.
