MHD, shooting star of rap, sent back to the assizes for homicide

The rising star of French rap still fights with justice.

The MHD singer, Mohamed Sylla of his real name, will be referred to the Assize Court alongside eight other indicted people,

The nine people, including the rapper, face a 30-year prison sentence for their involvement in a deadly brawl that took place in Paris, on the night of July 5 to 6, 2018. Assaulted by about ten people, the victim - Loïc K., 23 years old - had been hit by a car, beaten up and wounded with a knife during an extremely violent brawl, before succumbing to his numerous injuries, in a street in the 10th arrondissement .

Incarcerated in early 2019 for intentional homicide, the rapper was released under judicial supervision in July 2020 after spending a year and a half in pre-trial detention.

Banned from staying in Paris, MHD never ceased to proclaim his innocence in the death of Loïc K., affirming that he regularly lent his car to friends and that he was preparing, that evening, his departure for Germany where he was expected in concert.

Now 27 years old, MHD has made a name for himself on the French rap scene by creating the new musical sub-genre of Afro-trap, with African influences.

Powered by YouTube, the musician accumulated, at the age of 24, several million views on Google's video platform and already two albums to his credit.

Since his release, MHD has notably received public support from singer Booba, who unveiled a song recorded with him in 2017 at the beginning of the year. The rapper also released a third album this summer, inspired by his stint in jail.

The two clips produced in recent months from this latest disc have already totaled more than 66 million views combined.
