The politicians' appeals have had an impact - at least at the vaccination center in Peißenberg.

There have been about three times as many people for the vaccination since Tuesday as in the previous weeks.

Peißenberg - Among those waiting in the vaccination center yesterday afternoon were Dr. Andrea Wenderoth and her son Nicolas. The mother, a doctor, wanted to be vaccinated for the third time, Nicolas (13) for the second time. After a short wait, the two went to the vaccination room, where Dr. Hans Schiessler, the two of them - his daughter and his grandson - pricked with the needle. Schiessler (77) is one of around two dozen doctors who are regularly on duty in the vaccination room. He believes the surge in the number of cases and the appeals from politicians led to this "certain onslaught" this week. In the past few weeks, according to Christian Achmüller, head of the Johanniter vaccination center in the former hospital, around 100 people wanted to be vaccinated every day; on Tuesday there were over 350.

"If you don't get it now, you really can't help," says Schiessler, who otherwise avoids discussions about reasons for the late first vaccination of some.

“It is important that they get vaccinated at all.” By the way, vaccinations are made with Moderna or Biontech.

Worries about vaccination doses

Of around 350 vaccinations on Tuesday, 130 were first, 60 second and 160 third vaccinations, according to Dr. Christoph Wittermann, the medical director of the vaccination center and like his colleague Schiessler, has long since reached retirement age. “We are a club for retirees,” said Wittermann. But there are also younger colleagues who work there - those who have just finished their studies and still have time before their job, for example. A colleague who runs a practice or works in a hospital would not be able to do the voluntary, paid service for reasons of time, says Wittermann. Schiessler, formerly a dermatologist in Weilheim, enjoys working in the vaccination center: "I keep meeting people I still know from my practice."

Despite a sufficient number of doctors and the sharp rise in vaccination numbers, not everything is in the sunshine in the former hospital building: Achmüller and Wittermann are particularly concerned about supplies.

Because currently the vaccination doses are scarce.

There are plenty of them, but the transport from the camps to the vaccination centers currently takes two weeks.

“We'll still have supplies until the end of next week,” says Achmüller, who hopes that delivery times will be halved from next week.

For Wittermann, the logistics problem is an indication that “politics are making decisions without speaking to the grassroots beforehand”.

Vaccination from next week only with registration

There are also problems due to the increase in the number of people willing to vaccinate on site.

On Tuesday, numerous people had to go home without spades because the rush was too great.

"We wanted to avoid long waiting times, the people mostly reacted with understanding and came back the next day," said Achmüller.

Therefore, from next week vaccinations will only be given after prior registration (phone 08803/492 9700 or impfzentren.bayern).

Whether the vaccination center will open again on Monday in the future, if the rush remains that way, will be decided in the next few weeks, Achmüller said yesterday when asked.
