The sorting gesture is the essential condition to recycle as much as possible and accelerate the efforts of companies towards the recyclability of packaging and their eco-design
", Citeo underlined in a press release the day after the broadcast of the program. “
Waste: the great illusion
” on France 2.

Citeo is an organization, supported by the public authorities, which manages and coordinates the collection and recycling of household waste in France, in conjunction with local communities and private companies.
Plastic recycling rate less than 30%
The organization admits that the effective recycling rate of plastic packaging is still only 29% of that which is collected.
That's just six points more in six years (23% in 2015).
But "
it makes no sense to discourage the French
", launches Sophie Genier, "
in total disagreement
" with the show.
Cash Investigation notably questioned the “
extension of the sorting gesture
” (that is to say the systematic sorting of all plastics in the yellow bin) requested from around half of the French, while many plastics are not available. in fact not yet recycled.

Recycling is slower to take place for certain plastic molecules mainly because of the huge investments to be made in sorting centers and recyclers, she said.
"
But it is above all by the act of sorting that we can recover the materials
" she adds, taking the example of yoghurt pots, hardly recycled in France, as denounced by the program.
But “
to set up an industrial sector for recycling polystyrene (PS) yoghurt pots, we must achieve a + mass + to be recycled, a 'deposit',
” she explains, otherwise manufacturers may hesitate to invest.
The PS25 consortium, made up of agri-food manufacturers in particular, launched in July 2020 must make a decision at the end of 2021 to launch a sector for polystyrene recycling by 2025, she adds.
