Türkenfeld - For a long time there has been a desire to replace the more than 50-year-old bike racks at the Türkenfeld S-Bahn station.

As part of a combined federal and state funding program, the municipality of Türkenfeld was now able to put this concern into practice.

In the first planning step, a combined needs and feasibility survey took place.

Experts from Deutsche Bahn were involved in this as part of the so-called Bike + Ride offensive.

With the offensive, DB Station & Service AG, which is responsible for the train stations, is working with the Federal Environment Ministry to support municipalities in building new bicycle parking spaces at their train stations.

The aim is to make train stations more attractive for the climate-friendly combination of bicycle and train.

The feasibility study revealed that the bike racks on the track in the direction of Munich should first be replaced.

On the one hand, because they are much more frequented.

On the other hand, because there are spatial development opportunities here.

After drafting a decision proposal and approval by Deutsche Bahn, the municipal council decided to build almost 100 modern double-decker parking lots and ten regular parking spaces.

A standard stand model that is in use throughout Germany was used, as can already be found at many other train stations.

Desire for adequate nighttime lighting

The request for sufficient nighttime lighting of the facility was also met.

"In a final step, we will now beautify the entrance area of the train station and set up a notice board for our local associations," says Mayor Emanuel Staffler.

In order to create barrier-free access and also to allow surface water to run off, the subsoil also had to be strengthened.

After almost six weeks of construction, the new bike racks were put into operation at the end of October.

The cost of the project is around 120,000 euros.

Around 90,000 euros of this are covered by state grants.
