The Saar CDU has elected Prime Minister Tobias Hans as the top candidate for the state elections on March 27, 2022.
Hans received 289 of 301 votes at a state representative meeting in Saarbrücken on Friday evening, which corresponds to 96.6 percent.
There were ten votes against and two abstentions.
Saarbrücken - Hans had previously committed the party to the election campaign.
After the poor performance of the CDU Bundestag election, the Saarland election is "under a different sign".
Hans emphasized the successes of the state government under his leadership.
In his one-hour speech, he focused on the topics of home and security.
Almost at the same time, the SPD in Saarland elected Minister of Economic Affairs Anke Rehlinger as the top candidate for the state elections on March 27, 2022. The Saarland has been ruled by a grand coalition led by the CDU since 2012.
The CDU has been the prime minister in the country since 1999.
