Traffic light talks between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP could fail because concrete measures for climate protection have so far been lacking.

So warns Greens co-chairman Habeck.

Berlin / Munich - Climate protection continues to be one of the most important issues in the coalition negotiations of the traffic light parties.

Green leader Robert Habeck * does not see any concrete measures to set intentions.

According to him, this could possibly lead to the failure of the coalition negotiations to form a traffic light coalition with the SPD * and FDP *.

There was agreement that the next government had to be a climate government, he said on

on Friday

.

The question now arises as to what the SPD and FDP have achieved on the subject of climate protection in the previous negotiations.

Traffic light negotiations: Agreement in line with schedule not certain, says Habeck

Habeck referred to the 1.5-degree path laid down in the exploratory paper of the three traffic light parties and said that measures had to be developed for this and wind turbines built.

Otherwise, according to Habeck, a failure of the negotiations cannot be ruled out: "The climate has not yet been saved on paper, but if we do not get there, then we will have failed in the coalition negotiations."

He also indicated that the schedule might falter.

Habeck said it had to succeed “very clearly”, but an agreement on the planned schedule was not certain.

The previous plan in the context of the talks is that SPD candidate Olaf Scholz * will be elected as the new Federal Chancellor of a traffic light coalition in the week of December 6th.

Traffic light parties meet to "cut the knot"

Formally, the sub-working groups had ended their work.

The main negotiating group should then meet on Monday and Tuesday, where they will try to resolve disagreements: "Then we will try to cut the knot."

A few things "are not that difficult, because hopefully everyone will remember what has already been agreed," added the Green chief.

"Everything can be resolved with good will and, above all, assuming that there is a confrontation with reality," said Habeck.

Climate protection is one of the most difficult issues in the negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP.

The working groups for the negotiations finished their work on Wednesday.

The results have been evaluated since then.

From Monday it should then continue in a large group.
