The court in Istanbul has postponed the release of a couple of tourists arrested on suspicion of photographing the presidential palace • This is despite estimates that the two will be released

The court in Istanbul this evening (Friday) postponed the release of Natalie and the Oknin rebels, two Israeli tourists who were arrested yesterday in Turkey on suspicion of photographing the Turkish presidential palace.

The detention of the two was extended by 20 days.

Earlier, senior Turkish officials told Israel Today that the two were expected to be released today, which did not materialize.

As you may recall, yesterday we published in "Israel Today" that the couple came for a tour of the Istanbul communications tower that opened last year, where they photographed and documented the landscapes.

They documented Erdogan's residence area, less than four kilometers away - and presented the documents to each other.

At this point, a waiter working in the tower, who heard the couple talking to each other about a photo of Erdogan's residence, reported it to the Istanbul police.

Last night, a senior Turkish official told Israel Today that "a waiter working in the tower reported suspicious behavior on their part."

He said, "The Israeli consulate in Istanbul is dealing with the issue. I estimate that they will be released tomorrow."

Following this, according to local reports, the security unit of the Presidential Residence and the police in the fight against terrorism of Istanbul entered into operation.

The husband and wife were arrested and taken to the facility of the Istanbul Anti-Terrorism Police.

Once their questioning has apparently ended, the prosecution is expected to sue for their deportation.

In a conversation with Israel Today yesterday, Eran Perry, the brother of the Israeli who was arrested in Turkey, said: "We are currently in uncertainty and there is misinformation. On the one hand they say they will be deported and on the other they say there is a chance to extend their detention whole".
