Suspicion: 18-year-old murdered by her partner in Be'er Sheva (edited by Aviad Ballali)

The Magistrate's Court in Be'er Sheva this evening (Saturday) extended the detention of Roni Shumov, the suspect in the murder of the 17-year-old in Be'er Sheva, until Thursday.

The young woman, a resident of Netanya, was found lifeless in Shumov's apartment in Be'er Sheva, and the police arrested him after the incident.

Upon entering the hall, Shumov said he was sorry about the incident.

"I'm in shock. I'm sorry it happened at all," he said.

Judge Haim Pess argued that there was a reasonable suspicion regarding the offenses attributed to Shumov, and therefore extended his detention.

"This is a tragic event and the suspicion is that the suspect caused her death. These are actually spouses, but materials presented to me show that the relationship between them was not always conducted and there are previous complaints of the deceased towards the suspect."

He added that "the material of the investigation in fact contradicts a version that the suspect provided regarding the events. Naturally I can not detail the nature of the evidence, but it raises a reasonable suspicion of an intensity that is not low at all."

In the young family, cans are heard pointing an accusing finger at the police, claiming that "they were not treated properly, and ignored the signs" that warned of the future.

According to the young woman's aunt, Shumov was released from prison about a month ago due to violence against her, "he was violent. He had cases in the police, the police knew it, why did they not help her?".

In the Southern District of Police there are two cases against the murder suspect.

One is for assault against the spouse who was found lifeless in his home, and the other is a violation of a restraining order from the spouse, which was issued after a complaint was filed with the police by a third party.

The young family in Netanya says that the two met through mutual friends and have been together for about six months. "We tried to prevent the connection," said another relative. "We did everything. Her friend called him and told him to leave her. He did not release her, he drove her crazy, he was violent. We knew it would end badly. We tried to do everything." According to her, the young woman had hope that things would change for the better. "She understood but thought it would be okay, that it would change, that it would be okay. She loved him. She wanted to get married and have children. It was her dream."

Her family said that on Thursday afternoon, the young woman asked to travel from her home to Be'er Sheva, while her mother forbade her to leave the house because she knew she wanted to go to her partner's apartment.

The young woman called the police on the grounds that the mother had imprisoned her in her home, while the police told the mother that the girl had grown up and had the right to do as she pleased.

"On Friday, she sent us another message, 'Shabbat Shalom, I made fish,'" the young woman's aunt said.

"How much we tried to help her, we told her come and live here. The police could have prevented this murder. Why did the policeman who knew he was violent not call a social worker? Another who was murdered."

She described the young woman, the third sister of four siblings, as educated and loved by her relatives.

"She was special, she was amazing, she was a good friend. The mother complained, did not let her go. A policeman came and told her she was 18 and she was allowed to go and do whatever she wanted."

Near midnight, the police received a report of the young woman who died at a house on Knesset Street, following which police officers arrived at the scene and arrested the couple, a resident of the city, for questioning.

The body of the 18-year-old was transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

"The young woman was lying unconscious in the house," said MDA paramedic Shai Kadosh.
