New Delhi-SANA
Today, the Indian government announced the complete closure of all public and private schools in the capital, New Delhi, after the air quality deteriorated and reached an all-time low with the end of the (Feast of Lights) season, which was followed by the burning of crops in neighboring Punjab and Haryana.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today, "School closures will actually start next Monday for a week so that children do not have to breathe polluted air," adding that "the health situation in the capital will be assessed after a week to determine the extent to which the pollution rate has decreased."
The Indian Supreme Court had examined the issue of pollution and proposed the closure of public facilities for days.
The Indian capital is among the four major neighboring cities that have increased air pollution due to the practices carried out by some residents during the festival of lights and the burning of agricultural crops.
