Due to rising corona numbers, Germany is now classifying almost all of Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary as high-risk areas - with consequences for holidaymakers.

Berlin - The corona numbers are skyrocketing not only in Germany, but also in neighboring countries.

The Netherlands, for example, has now imposed a new partial lockdown.

Due to the dramatic increase in numbers in Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the federal government has now reacted: The countries are considered Corona high-risk areas.

The Robert Koch Institute announced the decision on Friday.

Anyone who enters from a high-risk area and is not fully vaccinated or recovered has to be in quarantine for ten days and can only get rid of it with a negative test five days after arrival at the earliest.

With Austria and the Czech Republic, two neighboring countries of Germany have been put on the risk list for the first time in many weeks.

Corona high-risk areas: Dramatic numbers in Austria and the Czech Republic

Both countries were removed from the list in June.

However, the number of infections there has risen dramatically again in the past few weeks.

The incidence in Austria was over 800 on Saturday, making the so-called seven-day incidence there about three times as high as in Germany.

In the Czech Republic the value is 614.

The vaccination rates in the Czech Republic and Austria are relatively low at 58 and 65 percent of the total population compared to other European countries.

But Germany is not doing much better with 67 percent.

Countries and regions with a particularly high risk of infection are classified as high-risk areas.

But not only the infection numbers are decisive for this.

Other criteria are the speed at which the virus is spreading, the burden on the health system or a lack of data on the corona situation.

Corona high-risk areas: Exceptions to the RKI rule in Austria for some municipalities

Only a few small municipalities in Austria are excluded from the classification as a high-risk area.

These include the Kleinwalsertal holiday area in Vorarlberg (Mittelberg municipality), which can only be reached by road from the German side via the Oberstdorf region.

Also the Jungholz enclave in the Allgäu, which is part of Tyrol.

Also the Riss valley in the municipality of Vomp and Eben am Achensee in Tyrol.
