Theater 4 is breaking new ground.
After two successful stage plays, the young talent group of the renowned Theater 5 has made a feature film.
The premiere is on Sunday in the Brucker Lichtspielhaus.
“Cement of the Universe” is the name of the one-hour film.
Fürstenfeldbruck - The focus is on Hannah and Lisa, two young women around 20, played by Leandra Frey and Lena Sammüller. Both feel quite lost in their lives. The relationship with their partners (Tim Golling, Titus Weber) does not bring unadulterated happiness either. Finally, the girls embark on a road trip, where demarcation and identity formation become a dangerous mixture.
Hannah and Lisa embark on a risky experiment - the complete renunciation of food and drink in order to live only on "light food".
“It's about showing how easy it is to get lost in ideologies,” says Leandra Frey.
Author and director Katharina Holzhey demonstrates this with the little-known esoteric concept of light nutrition, whose followers claim to be able to live exclusively on subtle energy - a belief that has already claimed deaths.
The idea arose in lockdown
The idea for the film arose during the lockdown when it was not possible to meet for theater rehearsals.
In addition, not all Theater-4 members live in Bruck - Holzhey studies in Tübingen, Frey in Bamberg.
“We thought about how we could do a project together without squatting on top of each other.” The whole group was able to work together on the script from a distance.
The film was shot for two weeks during the semester break at the original locations in Bruck and in Ostallgäu, where Frey's parents have a holiday home.
Holzhey had found a used film camera that provided professional images.
It was sheer luck that the group had nice days for the outdoor shots in the rainy summer.
One of the first things the team learned through practical film work was that you can only shoot “when the sun is playing along” (Frey).
Everyone wanted to do it, nobody really had a clue - so you went to work completely impartially and without pressure.
And although the shooting days were long, everyone involved found the film work as a pleasant breather from the stress of the university, according to Frey.
Finding a cinema for the film wasn't a big problem.
The Brucker Lichtspielhaus was happy to include the youth work in its program.
"Cement of the Universe" can be seen there on Sunday, November 14th, from 6 pm.
