Middle Franconia: There are still many apprenticeships available - also in Nuremberg

As

reported by

nordbayern.de

, Stefan Kastner, head of vocational training at the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for Middle Franconia, said: “We can still sign a contract on December 24th.” The reason: Many apprenticeships are still vacant.

Every fifth job remains vacant, the occupancy rate was 80 percent.

The companies thus took on fewer trainees on average than in the previous year, when the rate was 87 percent.

However, some companies want to increase their offer, as Kastner reported.

Twelve of the companies surveyed planned to offer more training positions.

"62 percent keep their offer stable."

On September 30th, 744 apprenticeship positions were still vacant in their district, according to the Nuremberg Employment Agency - including mainly in the commercial sector in retail, positions in the hotel industry, in gastronomy and in sales.

These were also badly affected by the pandemic, reports

nordbayern.de.

Employment agency records decline in applicants

While some companies are planning more jobs, apprenticeships seem to be becoming less and less popular with young people.

The employment agency recorded a decline in applicants of 14.8 percent.

Peter Preißinger, who is responsible for career counseling, justified this with the Corona * pandemic and the trend that many schoolchildren are aiming for higher professional qualifications.

Another reason: Because of the pandemic, the students were able to do fewer internships.

Matthias Braun, head of the vocational training department at the Chamber of Crafts (HWK) for Middle Franconia, also said this.

Another reason she mentioned was the sometimes bad reputation of certain professions.

The craft is "by no means dirty, badly paid and without career opportunities," he explained.

Exam results were even better

Contrary to what was sometimes expected, the exams were no worse than in previous years - on the contrary.

The results are "a tad better than before" and that without a corona bonus, because "the tasks were not easier," said Braun.
