The Evolution of the Symbol in Palestinian Painting

Followers of Palestinian plastic art note that it depends largely on the symbol that we find present in many forms among many of the plastic artists of Palestine, especially those associated with land and resistance, the city of Jerusalem, women and heritage.

And about the presence of the symbol in the Palestinian plastic painting, the Palestinian Writers Union, the Heritage Society, held a symposium by the artist Abdel Muti Abu Zaid, head of the Union branch of plastic artists in Syria, accompanied by an exhibition of plastic paintings of his works.

Researcher and Dr. Naglaa Al-Khadra spoke at the beginning of the symposium about the cultural and civilizational heritage that the Palestinian artist carries in his plastic works that indicate his identity and the concerns and tales that he bears in his symbols with some privacy because he was linked to the stage of displacement, the suppression of the occupation and the displacement of the Palestinian people, where this art was linked to a single fabric with the march The struggle relied on heritage, the woman who symbolizes giving, the horse for vigor, birds for peace and return, the sun for freedom and other symbols that made the Palestinian plastic painting part of the national project to support the idea of ​​liberation and return.

The artist Abu Zeid indicated that there is a group of artistic symbols that accompanied the historical development and the temporal period in the development of the Palestinian political movement from 1948 until now, indicating that he chose a group of works that he carried out during this stage that correspond to the content of the symposium, which dealt with the displacement of refugees and Palestinian resistance operations, such as a painting Dalal Moroccan and others.

Abu Zayd indicated that the guerrilla symbol became part of the general composition in the Palestinian painting with several forms of the gun, the keffiyeh, and the sign of victory or martyrdom.

In turn, the artist, Mohammed Al-Rkoui, spoke about the importance of the painting because it draws and monitors the heritage in an aesthetic way with colors on the surface of the painting through the artwork with all its symbols to remain for the future and remember and record the moment.
