The People's Assembly mourned Dr. Hadiya Abbas, the former Speaker of the Assembly, at the age of 63 years.
Dr. Abbas died today of a heart attack in the military hospital in Deir ez-Zor.
Dr. Abbas was born in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in 1958 and holds a doctorate in agricultural engineering from Aleppo University. She worked as a teacher at Al-Furat University and held positions, including a member of the administrative office of the National Union of Syrian Students for the Eastern Region branch from 1978 until 1983, and then head of the administrative office of the National Union For Syrian students, Deir ez-Zor branch of Raqqa from 1983 until 1988, and a member of the leadership of the Deir ez-Zor branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party from 1988 until 1998.
