Pug dogs tilt their heads (The Pug Head Tilt Pugs!)

Dogs are strange, wonderful and silly creatures that are very very cute on the outside but also very mysterious on the inside. If we want to better understand the inner world of our best friends and know what they are thinking - the best way to do this is by the work of animal scientists who try to answer questions about dogs' lives like the important question: why do some dogs tilt their heads when we talk To them?

A study by researchers from Hungary published for peer review in Animal Cognition magazine, examined the tilt of dogs by a study in which it was observed when and in which direction the dogs tilted their head when performing an act of comprehension task.

The researchers came up with the topic almost by accident, while researching something completely different - the research team from the Ethology Department of Atwash Lorand University in Budapest trained 40 dogs for 3 months, with the aim of teaching them the names of at least two toys.

The program included training for two days during which the dog owners playing with their dogs while they repeated the names of the toys and asked for the dogs to them, in addition to training tours given by dog trainer.

The task was to - achieving a toy from another room after saying the name of Htzaoa, forcing the The dog not only remembers that saying the name of the toy is an order to fetch it, but also remembering what it looks like and taking it.

This is how the study was conducted

More on this topic:

  • This is the strange reason that dogs walk around before they defecate

  • The dog stunned everyone when he asked his owner, "Where are you going?"

  • The test that proved: Dogs are filled with envy just from the possibility of petting another dog

  • Doctors and clients agree: this is the safe solution to pain

The researchers who observed the dogs found that dogs that were better at the toy's memory tilted their head when they heard the command more frequently than their friends who were less good at memory.

The researchers found that dogs that successfully learned the names often responded to the request by tilting their head (in fact, they did so in 43 percent of cases, compared with dogs that failed to learn, who tilted their head in only two percent of the tests).

The researchers estimated that this means that the head lice may show signs of attention or even recall a picture in their head when they hear the name of the favorite toy - the study suggests.

Shani Dror, an Israeli doctoral student from the study's authors, told phys.org. "There seems to be a connection between success in bringing the right toy and frequent head tilts when hearing its name.

Admit it's cute

The researchers noted that the place where the person stood when he asked the dog to bring the toy did not affect the head tilt and determined that the question of why dogs tilt their heads in specific directions deserves further study - the fact that a dog tilts his head to the right or left is personal preference.

A previous study of 12 dogs used brain scans to determine that the right side of dogs' brains tends to be more active in processing positive words or compliments, but the link between this and head tilt requires further research.
