About 12,000 Venezuelan musicians played Tchaikovsky's March Slav in pursuit of a world record and entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest orchestra in the world, with the result to be announced in the coming days.

According to Agence France-Presse, musicians gathered from all over the country in the courtyard of the Venezuelan Military Academy in Caracas last night to perform the piece, while Maestro Andres David Ascanio led the concert, which lasted for twelve minutes.

He said before completing the exercise: "If a chord is broken, do not stop. If you lose the divisions, continue to play based on memory, but do not stop, in order to avoid endangering the record."

The attendance was limited to a limited audience that included some personalities, including Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and 260 observers from KPMG, which is charged with ensuring that the conditions required to certify the record are respected.

The piece composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1867 consists of eight pieces performed during the concert.

The record in this category is still held by the Russian Saint Petersburg Orchestra, which gave a concert in 2019 with 8,097 musicians.
