A 39-year-old virtual currency investor met with a buyer to trade Tate on the 6th of this month and was taken to a unit in an industrial building in Kowloon for delivery. Unexpectedly, a kidnapper would ambush in the unit and beat the victim with a hard object.

The kidnappers later obtained the victim's bank account and the password of the virtual currency trading platform, and instructed him to demand a ransom of 30 million yuan from relatives and friends on the grounds of debts.

The victim was kidnapped and imprisoned for 7 days, during which time he changed to join the sinus several times.

He was taken to a container yard, tin hut, etc., and finally escaped through a narrow window in the attic of the tin hut while the kidnappers were not watching.

After receiving a report from the victim’s family, the police arrested 6 men and 1 woman yesterday (13) for "kidnapping" and "conspiracy to kidnap" 6 men and 1 woman, aged between 25 and 32, all from the same triad.

The police are looking for at least 7 to 8 fugitives.

In the incident, the family never paid any ransom, but the police did not rule out losses in the victim's virtual currency account.

Alan Chung, the senior superintendent of criminal deployment in West Kowloon Region, pointed out that the victim was a 39-year-old full-time virtual currency investor who mainly traded in "Titecoin."

The case occurred at about 11 a.m. on the 6th of this month. He wanted to sell Tate for HK$4 million and met online buyers to trade face-to-face in Kowloon Bay. Since he had traded with the other party a few weeks ago, he had certain confidence. No fraud.

After the two sides met, the culprit borrowed words to take the victim to a unit in an industrial building in Ngau Long Bay.

After the victim was taken to the unit, several men were found in the unit.

Alan Chung described the culprits as "cruel", referring to them involuntarily punching and kicking the victim, and attacking the victim with hammers and iron stools, resulting in serious bodily injuries and multiple fractures of his hands and feet, with the intention of preventing the victim from fleeing.

They forced the victim to hand over information such as mobile phone, mobile phone password, online banking account password, virtual currency trading platform password, and even asked the victim to call family and friends to raise a ransom on the grounds of debts.

In the early hours of the 7th, the culprit tied the victim's eyes, held him into a pre-prepared private car, and then took him to an unknown container yard to continue his confinement.

In the evening of the same day, the victim was moved to the place of confinement again, believed to be to escape police investigation.

He was taken to a tin house in a sparse and remote location in Nam Hang Village, Tai Po. The culprits continued to attack the victim and again instructed him to raise a ransom from relatives and friends.

The kidnappers initially offered a ransom of 8 million yuan and later increased to 30 million yuan. It is estimated that when they were with the victim, they learned from their mouths or their bank records that the victim was quite wealthy, so they kept raising the ransom amount.

Until the 9th of this month, the victim’s family initially thought he was just in debt, but later became more unhappy and eventually called the police for help.

The Regional Crime Squad of West Kowloon took over the investigation on the 10th. After in-depth intelligence analysis and investigation, the victim was located where the victim might be imprisoned and deployed in the vicinity.

On the night of the 12th, as the victim was confined to the basement floor most of the time, he was occasionally taken to the attic to rest. When the victim was in the attic, he escaped through a narrow window in the attic while the guards were not prepared.

The police officers deployed at the scene acted on the spot and immediately arrested two kidnappers nearby and rescued the victim.

The police then arrested 5 more suspects.

During the operation, the police detained a total of 6 men and 1 woman, aged between 25 and 32, all of whom had triad backgrounds. They reported that they were engaged in transportation, catering, car beauty and unemployed.

Two of the arrested kidnappers have been charged and will appear in West Kowloon Magistracy tomorrow.

The police are tracking down the remaining kidnappers and masterminds. It is estimated that 7 to 8 people are still at large.

In the incident, the family did not pay any ransom.

As the victim handed over the account password, he has not been able to open the account at present, and he is not clear about the balance of the encrypted currency account, but the police believe that there is a certain loss, and the number is temporarily unclear.

The victim is not in danger of life and is still in hospital for treatment.

The police noticed that there has been an upward trend in virtual currency transactions in recent days, with many criminals using different pretexts to demand face-to-face transactions.

The police urged that citizens should use reputable online platforms for transactions and avoid face-to-face transactions with strangers.
