A selection of the emigrant poets of Homs at a book signing ceremony for their biographies and collections

In the diaspora poetry, the longing for the land is manifested, and the memory is ignited with all the details of the place and time for those who left the country and did not leave them, so it dwelt in their poems and their biographies.

In the archaeological hall of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Homs in old Homs, the Ghassanid Orthodox schools and Homs newspaper invited a signing ceremony of a group of biographies and collections of elite poets from Homs, including Hosni Ghorab, Nasr Samaan, Badri Farkouh, Nadra Haddad, Salwa Salama Atlas, Petro Trabelsi, Michel Maghribi, Nassib Arida and Nabih Salameh.

The signing ceremony included a presentation of books and the reading of excerpts from the poems of some poets, where Dr. Abdul Rahim Kamhiyah, on behalf of his brother, Dr. Hassan, who collected and compiled poetic texts for a selection of the emigrant poets of Homs, some of whom are unknown to many Syrians, introduced the audience who are interested in cultural affairs to the literary work that was carried out. It was accomplished to revive the complete works of these poets and print them after collecting them from Syria and abroad, adjusting the texts and explaining the vocabulary with the aim of reviving the poets' production and making it available to those interested.

Among the 61 emigrant poets from Homs whose number was adjusted according to Qamhieh, the works of 12 poets were currently printed and signed and made available for research and study, pointing out that the next work is to collect all the emigrant poets of Homs in two volumes and a simple study of their lives and poems in appreciation of their literary and human giving.

In turn, Archbishop Georges Abu Zakhem, Metropolitan of Homs, pointed out to the Greek Orthodox the importance of concerted governmental and civil efforts to preserve our literary, scientific and cultural heritage in the memory of generations and to introduce the young people to our exiled poets and what they presented to humanity in terms of literature and art, especially since Syria has been and is throughout history the country of culture, art and literature.

For his part, Murhaf Shahla, director of the Ghassanian Orthodox Schools in Homs and managing editor of Homs newspaper, referred to the very rich archive of Homs newspaper, which documented and published many literary productions of the exiled poets of Homs, praising the efforts of Dr. Most of them were graduates of the Ghassanian Orthodox schools in Homs. It is our duty as Syrians to preserve our heritage inside and outside the country in response to all those who try to obliterate our identity, our intellectual and literary heritage, and our rich history.
