Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssef affirmed that the United States of America will not use his country's territory to interfere in Ethiopia.
"Djibouti appreciates its strategic partnership with Washington, but this partnership will not be directed against any other country," Youssef said in a statement after statements attributed to a US military official about the work of US forces in Djibouti.
Noting that some have expressed concern about the use of Djibouti's territory for hostile intervention in neighboring countries, Youssef reiterated that this will not happen because the government of Djibouti has relations with its neighbors.
Since last November, the Ethiopian Tigray region has witnessed unrest after confrontations between the Ethiopian army and the Tigray Liberation Front militants, which resulted in the flight of tens of thousands of refugees from the region.
