Wolfratshausen - Johannisplatz next to the Japanese Garden does not really offer much quality of stay.

That is about to change: after four of the six garages on the site were demolished, a lot of free space has been created, which the municipality would like to make prettier.

Now there are plans.

But not everyone likes them.

Wolfratshausen: Place on the Loisach should be more beautiful: More green and benches to linger

Building authority employee Thomas Wenig has given some thought: A natural, pretty square is to be created on the area on the Loisachufer, where people like to hang out.

One thing is clear: the Japanese garden, a gift from the twin town Iruma, must not be adapted to the area, "because we don't want to offend our friends in Japan," said Vice-Mayor Günther Eibl in the building committee.

Instead, roofed benches should invite people to linger, one or two “simple play equipment” for children should be set up and the stream in front of the wooden bridge should be secured with plants.

Children should still be able to play by the water - but a few meters further in shallow water.

Green, close to nature and inexpensive: plans for Johannisplatz convinced almost the entire committee

Most of the building committee liked the plans. Green City Councilor Dr. However, Hans Schmidt saw a need to catch up: "We have few cozy places to linger in the narrow inner-city area," he emphasized. That is why he called for special care in planning. The fact that the footpath at the edge of the property should be up to 6.5 meters wide is, for example, a "waste of space". He wished that the proposed bike rack would be moved to a different location in order to create more free space. In addition, replacement plantings are to be made for the two felled trees. Schmidt wanted to preserve a biotope near the stream that is to be filled up: “We need every green space in the city.” He criticized other points of the plan and called for “careful discussions about this gem”. The Green Council emphasized: "There is no time pressure."

The rest of the committee was not as critical of the planning as Schmidt.

“We think the plans are good,” emphasized Josef Praller (citizens' association).

Fritz Meixner (SPD) agreed, but suggested that a step-by-step natural stone seating option should be examined - “like in an outside classroom,” explained Meixner.

Against the votes of the Greens, Wenig's drawing of the plan was approved with 6: 2, and Meixner's proposal should also be examined.
