Despite the decline in the number of officially registered infections with the Corona virus, the occupancy rate in isolation and intensive care departments in hospitals in most governorates is still high, according to the Director of Readiness, Ambulance and Emergency in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tawfiq Hassa.

Dr. Hassa revealed, in a statement to SANA’s delegate, that the occupancy rate of the intensive care units in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, Tartous and As-Suwayda is still one hundred percent, indicating that the number of patients in the isolation and intensive care departments has reached 2,300 in various governorates currently, and no case has been transferred outside the governorates for more than two weeks.

Dr. Hassaba stressed the great pressure on hospitals, as the number of patients in the General Authority of Al-Basel Hospital in Tartous reached 140, which constituted a burden on the hospital, which was recently supported with 50 oxygen cylinders, while the number of patients in Martyr Zaid Al-Shatiari Hospital in As-Suwayda reached 118, compared to 70 beds designated for isolated patients.

On the other hand, Dr. Hassa explained that the occupancy rate in the Southern Corniche Center in Lattakia, designated to receive Corona patients who need oxygen support, is only 25 beds out of its total capacity of 100 beds.

Hessaba stressed the importance of receiving the anti-Coronavirus vaccine, as it is the only way to reduce the severity of infection and reduce hospital admission rates, in addition to implementing health measures such as wearing a mask and adhering to spatial distancing.
