The Perchtingen artist Sophie Soyer got the idea while walking in lockdown.

In the meantime she also sells her works of art - with great success.

Starnberg

- During the lockdown, Sophie Soyer regularly went for walks with her two children and her husband around the region's lakes. “You couldn't travel, so we used the time at home,” says the Perchtinger. As a studied art historian, she was particularly interested in the old buildings on the bank. “We visited Possenhofen Castle, Höhenrain Castle and Oberambach Castle, among others.” When she got home, the 37-year-old put the old buildings on paper with watercolors. “I saw that in England in a similar way and thought it was great,” she says in an interview with Starnberger Merkur.

Sophie Soyer drew around 30 castles in the region and the Andechs Monastery over a period of several months - always in the mornings when the children were out of the house. “I was looking for something I could do for myself,” she says. In addition to the old buildings, she created two maps - one with the outlines of Lake Starnberg and one with the outlines of Ammersee, Pilsensee, Wörthsee and Weßlinger See.

She scanned the various elements as well as the nautical charts and then edited them on her computer. “I then moved the locks to the place on the lake where they really are,” explains the 37-year-old. The cards are a mix of modern and historical. “I didn't want them to look so staid,” says Sophie Soyer. "That's why I drew a woman who swims on an inflatable pink flamingo, a cocktail and a deck chair." More and more people became aware of the works of art through her Instagram account. Since the summer, the Perchtingerin has been selling the lovingly designed cards in her self-designed online shop. “My husband gave me a really great printer, so I can set the colors precisely.“This is how the print on high-quality Hahnemühle Fine Art paper looks like the original.

Changes and individualized details are also possible.

“Some customers asked me if I could draw their own house or car as well.” Soyer has already sold 80 of 250 cards.

“It's fun, but I can't make a living from it,” says the 37-year-old, whose art can also be seen in the form of oil paintings in the gatehouse in Söcking.

Sophie Soyer doesn't have a favorite lake.

“I think they all have something special.” The Starnberger See its old buildings, the Wörthsee its Caribbean flair, and the 37-year-old grew up on the Pilsensee.

The tickets can be purchased on the website www.sophiesoyer.com or by email to studio@sophiesoyer.com.

They cost 39.90 euros in A3 format and 29.90 euros in A4 format.
