The boosting in old people's and nursing homes is progressing too slowly.

The government and opposition are now diligently handing the buck.

Munich - The corona vaccination is the only way out of the corona pandemic *, emphasized Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder * (CSU) in countless press conferences.

Nevertheless, the vaccination rate in the Free State is the worst of the western federal states.

And even with the so-called booster vaccinations - i.e. the third spade - progress is slow.

This is particularly dangerous for the residents of nursing homes and old people's homes.

In some cases, your protection against the virus is hardly in place.

Now there was criticism for the Söder government.

Corona in Bavaria: Over a third of those in need of care have not yet received a booster vaccination

In the past weeks and months there have been repeated breakthroughs in vaccinations and waves of infections in Bavarian nursing and old people's homes. In a facility in Eichstätt, for example, six people died of a Covid 19 infection. In order to protect these vulnerable groups, experts recommend a booster or booster vaccination. This is mainly in the hands of mobile vaccination teams. But family doctors also take care of the third spade. The Bavarian Ministry of Health has now announced figures.

By November 5, around 40,000 people in need of care had been vaccinated three times.

In addition, there would be as many people who received their third injection from family doctors.

However, there are an estimated 127,000 care cases in Bavaria.

This means that a third of those in need of care are still waiting to be refreshed.

The clock is ticking, however, because the corona numbers screw up to new heights every day *.

According to a ministry spokesman, the vaccination centers have now “almost completely” contacted the old people's and nursing homes.

Where vaccination campaigns have not yet taken place, they are planned.

Vaccination centers in Bavaria are already reaching their limits

Meanwhile, Söder promised booster vaccinations for everyone. There should also be no prioritization and no one should be sent home who wants a vaccination. But this promise failed hard because of reality. For example, on Saturday (November 13th), numerous people who wanted to be vaccinated were turned away in Augsburg because not enough vaccine was available. Now there was harsh criticism of the state government.

For the SPD health expert Ruth Waldmann, booster vaccinations "make sense in the end" for everyone, she reveals to the

BR

. But Söder's call came at the wrong time, with poor preparation at the same time - that is now causing chaos. “That is irresponsible, and it shouldn't have been.” In the vaccination campaign, one shouldn't forget the disabled and the people who are cared for at home. These were ignored in the first vaccination campaign.

FDP politician and doctor Dominik Spitzer was surprised that so many older people had not yet received their third injection.

"The nursing homes should definitely be through long ago," he told the

BR

.

“It shouldn't really happen that the old people are endangered again.” He himself had already started boosting in August.

The first thing to do now is to close the gaps in the care facilities.

In his practice, the number of vaccination requests has increased significantly, so that he is considering vaccinating on weekends as well.

"I hope that the vaccine will actually be available."

Vaccination centers were only recently shut down - now it's taking its toll

The Green parliamentary group leader Katharina Schulze betrayed the

BR

, it now has to be “finally padded and not spilled when vaccinating”. And of course vulnerable groups should have priority. Söder's government did not think and plan ahead. "You should have logistically planned the booster vaccinations in old people's and nursing homes over the summer," stated the Green politician. Söder would always make the same mistake and not use the summer. Schulze complained that on October 1, Söder had "the vaccination centers shut down to a minimum" - with the statement that the family doctors should take care of the vaccinations. Now they should be started up again from now on. But now the staff is missing. To look for something new, “we don't really have the time,” said the Greens boss.

The Ministry of Health has initially taken on the defense of the state government.

"The Free State of Bavaria has been one of the first federal states to have been promoting booster vaccinations for particularly vulnerable groups since August and has made offers through the vaccination centers, especially in homes for care for the elderly as well as for those in need of care and the very elderly," a ministry spokesman told the

BR

.

However, many homes rejected the offers from the vaccination centers because they were looked after by general practitioners.

"The protection of the vulnerable groups continues to have top priority for the state government," emphasized the spokesman.
