A general and four Syrian army soldiers were killed on Sunday in a bomb explosion in eastern Syria where jihadists are active, the day after 13 pro-regime fighters were killed in an attack, said an NGO.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), a bomb exploded when a vehicle passed by the five soldiers in the province of Deir Ezzor.
Despite its rout in Syria in March 2019 with the fall of its "
caliphate
", the Islamic State (IS) group continues to launch deadly attacks in the country, especially in the vast Badiya desert which stretches from the central province. from Homs to that of Deir Ezzor.
On Saturday, at least 13 pro-regime fighters were killed in an ambush by ISIS in the desert area of Masrib, in western Deir Ezzor province, according to OSDH, which has an extensive network of sources in the country.
Since March 2019, nearly 1,600 members of the regime's forces or groups loyal to it have been killed, as well as 153 non-Syrian pro-Iran fighters, in various bombing or ambush attacks carried out by ISIS, according to a count of OSDH.
The conflict in Syria, which started in 2011, has caused the deaths of around half a million people and the displacement of more than half of the population.
