Winter is coming and with it the season of cuddling in the living room at home, in front of the TV screen.

But the variety in the field is great, the supply is wide, and the many functions may confuse us.

So just before we invest in one of the most useful devices in the house, should not we do a short market survey?

To do this, we turned to Nirit Kamara, the TV and audio screen product manager of the HI Group from LG, who helped us build the complete guide to choosing the perfect TV.

The best screen in the world comes to you in the living room >>

Think big

The most important thing you need to do before purchasing a TV is to define your needs.

Is it for the living room?

To the kitchen?

To the bedroom?

The standard size of living room TVs starts at 65 inches, but unlike in the past, thanks to the K4 resolution, today the distance of the sofa from the screen does not matter.

Even if we sit very close, we can see a detailed picture so we can afford to go wild with the size, as much as the wall and budget allow.

The question you need to ask yourself at this point is which is more important - quality or size?

Keep in mind that sometimes it is better to buy a higher quality and smaller TV, than a large TV with fewer functions.

OLED technology

We will distinguish between two main technologies: LCD screens and OLED screens. Most LCD screens have a standard panel and backlight. OLED screens are the most advanced screens on the market and have no backlight. In OLED screens, the pixels themselves are made of light-emitting organic material and do not need backlighting. It is important to understand that backlighting cannot be 100 percent accurate and there will always be bright areas, even though they are supposed to be completely dark. In OLED screens, each pixel is independently lit and there are 8.3 million pixels, so in the area where the image should be dark - the pixel is off. Meaning: endless contrast, absolute black color and on top of it all the other colors are vivid and prominent, and a sharp and clear image.

In addition, OLED technology allows for a wide viewing angle, even if you are not sitting right in front of the screen. If most of your viewing is not necessarily from the armchair opposite, consider this tip.

Aside from the image quality, it is important to also check if the colors are right for you.

There are people who prefer bright and glowing colors and there are news and reality viewers who prefer colors that are as close to reality as possible.

Whether your home is lit or if you are watching TV mostly in the evening are also questions that will help you decide.

If you watch throughout the day, the screen should have a function of very high brightness - like a mini LED LCD with backlight.

If viewing angles are important to you, it is better to be able to see comfortably from the edge of the sofa and not just from the center, and here the OLED is the solution for you.

Note that OLED technology emits a low level of blue light, which is significant for eye health for those who spend a lot of time in front of the screen.

Not moving from Netflix or burned out on football?

Like a computer, the TV also needs to check the processor, which allows you to see the image and hear the sound in the best way. A good processor will know how to take the content on YouTube for example, and upgrade the quality of their viewing. What is recommended? LG's Alpha 9 and Alpha 7 are more powerful, fast-moving, reasonably priced processors. If the function that is important to you is response speed, an algorithm that helps locate functions quickly, check the quality of the processor. A fast and innovative processor can also show us fast movement in the smoothest way possible, such as in football. Devout viewers should also consider the issue of viewing angles in this context - so that if ten friends gathered in your living room to see the Clásico, each of them will feel like he is on the field ...

All of LG's Premium TVs for 2021 offer a home-based, immersive and comprehensive entertainment experience, thanks to compliance with the latest standards and formats, combined with new functions that create unique added value.

Support for Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos®, HDR10 PRO allows screens to display the latest series and movies, with the highest image quality and sound quality.

Ease of use

Sometimes simplicity is the most sophisticated feature. The best professionals required all the sophistication possible to create for you an operating system that would be as simple and accessible as possible. The easier and more intuitive you have, the more you will use it. Spotify, YouTube and Netflix at the touch of a button, as well as free sites like Mako, Network 13 and here 11 - are all on your screen bar.

And here we come to the problem that bothers us: too many signs on the table. How many times have you not understood why the channel does not change, until you find out that you accidentally click on the "TV" remote? LG has a smart remote, which moves with a hand gesture and allows you to speak to the TV in Hebrew and have a dialogue with it, for example about the weather. really! You can check what the weather is like tomorrow and even the day after tomorrow in New York, without any effort.

The artificial intelligence system that enables this conversation can also help with the instructions you give to your TV, like turning itself off in half an hour.

Using the smart remote, the system can become universal and control the sound projector, converter and more.

The LG remote also allows channels to be transferred, eliminating the need to use several remote controls at once.

Gamers?

This section is for you

Gamers who want to use the TV screen, whether connected to a computer or a game console, need to check a number of significant features: HDMI 2.1 inputs, fast refresh rate and low input lag.

If you are connecting your laptop, make sure that FreeSync and Gsync are supported.

In all of these features, LG's OLED TVs stand out especially with a response time of less than 1ms and an extremely low latency.

Design, no less important

Most people hang the TV on the wall, so it is important to pay attention to what the correct distance is.

Maybe you prefer the screen to be attached to the wall like a picture?

Do you place it on a sideboard or stand that gives a luxurious look?

LG has accompanying design solutions for your new screen, so that it fits perfectly in the living room or room, and if you are also purchasing a sound projector, it is important to note that it is also design-friendly.

So what did we learn?

Especially in the age of smart and advanced TVs there are many functions that we do not even think of, like connecting the washing machine to the TV and receiving alerts as soon as it finishes.

The advanced technology allows us to connect all the devices that work on the same protocol (WiFi) and connect them to the TV, which has long been not only an entertainment system, but the control center of the house.
