Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will meet tomorrow (Monday) at the Foreign Ministry with the special US envoy for Iran's affairs, Robert Mali.

Mali arrives in Israel at the head of a multi-armed US delegation. Prime Minister Bennett has decided not to meet with him, in order to convey the message that Israel opposes US policy to reach a new agreement with Iran.

In addition to Lapid, Mali will meet with senior officials in the Foreign Ministry, the National Security Council and the defense establishment.

Mali is expected to present in talks the US reasons for a new agreement with Iran.

On the other hand, the Israeli side will express strong opposition to any kind of agreement with the ayatollahs' regime, and will demand that the Americans increase the sanctions on them.

"Israel Today" has learned that on the side of the disagreements, and despite the American striving for an agreement at almost any cost, the parties will also discuss the possibility that it will not be reached.

In recent months there has been a growing internalization in the administration that the chances of a nuclear deal with Iran are not high, and that its whole purpose is to pull time.

As a result of the change in US assessment, the United States and its allies, including Israel, are stepping up "muscle demonstrations" against Iran, as reflected in the military exercises and their publicity.

However, Israel is still working to persuade the United States to speed up positions, and this is being discussed in talks.

Iran's willingness to resume talks in Vienna has revived the American hope of reaching an agreement.

And yet, the administration understands that an agreement is not certain, and against this background, talks are taking place on the "no agreement" scenario.

Israel intends to "offer some ideas" in case an agreement is not reached, centered on tightening sanctions on Iran.

At the same time, it is made clear in Israel that it reserves the right to act independently, in case it deems it appropriate to do so.

Iran, the United States and the superpowers are expected to resume negotiations on the nuclear deal in Vienna in two weeks. Return to the original agreement from 2015.
