Christmas is approaching, and with it an age-old tradition at Sandrigham Estate, where the royal feast is held • No guest is exempt and everyone is asked to get on the weighing scales before and after the meal - but why?

Continuing an age-old tradition, distinguished guests at the Queen of England's Christmas dinner are asked to consider themselves before and after the meal.

At this meal there is no point in trying to put your stomach in or declare a diet, because tradition is a tradition - and when it comes to one that comes from the Kingdom of England, no one has the ability to really refuse.

According to experts at the British Royal Family, the tradition of weighing guests before and after Queen Elizabeth's traditional Christmas dinner, held at the Sandringham Estate, is one that has its roots in the reign of Edward VII.

The reason given over the years for the slightly strange tradition, was that the king wanted to make sure that his guests dined kindly and were not ashamed to eat to satiety, and the way to check this was to compare the weight at which they came to the meal with that of Toma.

Some add that the expectation was for an increase of a little over a kilogram.

If we were to gain just a pound after a meal like this, it would be very gratifying.

This tradition has no official confirmation, but it was confirmed in an interview given by a British royal expert to the British Grace website in 2018, and also appeared in a scene in the movie "Spencer" about the life of Princess Diana starring Kristen Stewart.

In case you were wondering, no guest is exempt from weighing, including the most senior family members such as William and Kate, who are also asked to get on the ancient scales and cooperate with tradition.

Good luck.
