On the day of popular mourning, the victims of war and tyranny were also commemorated in the city of Wolfratshausen.

The mountain riflemen were represented with a formation of honor.

Wolfratshausen - "I had a comrade": Mayors, representatives of all parties and political groups as well as representatives of Wolfratshausen clubs and organizations commemorated the victims of war and tyranny on the day of memorial.

The musical setting on Marienplatz was provided by the town band and the “Sommer Sound” choir.

"Peace and freedom are the foundations of every dignified existence", quoted town hall chief Klaus Heilinglechner the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic, Konrad Adenauer.

Heilinglechner recalled the 60 million deaths caused by the Second World War unleashed by Nazi Germany.

But he also thought of “the men and women who had to pay for their resistance against the dictatorship with their lives”.

Heilinglechner named Sophie Scholl, a member of the White Rose, who “fell victim to the guillotine of the National Socialist terrorist judiciary” at the age of 21 as a representative.

We cannot undo, ignore, relativize or reinterpret what has happened.

The only option we have left is to ensure that war and dictatorship can no longer repeat themselves.

Klaus Heilinglechner, Mayor of Wolfratshausen

Also on Memorial Day, "even now, while we have gathered for a quiet hour of pause, mourning and remembering, people elsewhere are fighting for their lives or are threatened in their freedom," said Heilinglechner.

The conflicts of this world “are delivered to us every evening free of charge with the daily news in our living room”.

There are still streams of refugees on the way, which would make one thing clear: "Peace is far from being".

Mayor: Memorial Day has lost none of its meaning

The mayor emphasized that the day of national mourning has lost none of its importance. It is important to save the victims of war and terror from being forgotten. “Because if nobody thinks of them anymore, then they are definitely dead.” The day of national mourning sets a sign - “and it asks what conclusions can be drawn from the past; he asks where we stand today and which values are important to us ”. What happened cannot be undone, it cannot be ignored, relativized or reinterpreted: “The only option we have is to stand up for the fact that war and dictatorship cannot repeat themselves.” Heilinglechner warned that the beginnings should be allowed fight back: "Today we often experiencehow sometimes raw quarrels and resentments develop in our villages and towns because of sometimes trivial causes. That should make us aware and we should oppose such developments - in spite of all the necessary struggles to find the right path and future-oriented decisions ”.

The commemoration on the day of national mourning raises awareness of the need to "recognize threatening developments or the trivialization of violence in good time," said Heilinglechner.

A commemoration "that faces history and draws conclusions from it, sensitizes people to respect everyone, regardless of their origin and religion, it sensitizes them to value peace and freedom."

Wolfratshausen: clergy reminds of fallen Bundeswehr soldiers

The Protestant pastor Elke Eilert and Dean Gerhard Beham explicitly mentioned in the intercessions the soldiers of the Bundeswehr who lost their lives on missions abroad, as well as the victims of extremist violence.

After the common Our Father prayer, the mayor, city councilors and representatives of numerous associations laid a wreath in front of the Marienbrunnen.

Traditionally, the mountain costume conservation association D'Loisachtaler and the mountain rifle company (GSK) Wolfratshausen each laid their own wreath.

As every year, the GSK took part in the memorial day with an honorary formation.

In the run-up to the event, the Wolfratshauser Greens had, as reported, called for a “demilitarization” of the commemoration and called on the mountain riflemen to leave their weapons at home.
