Fürstenfeldbruck - "Berlin is always worth a trip," said Bruck's Lord Mayor Erich Raff (CSU), referring to a well-known song, but this time alluding more to the award the city received as part of the municipal climate conference competition.
The district town was one of the three winners in the “Climate-friendly mobility” category with its “Cargo bikes for everyone” project.
Raff and the city's climate protection officer, Thomas Müller, were delighted to receive the award and € 25,000 in prize money in person in the federal capital.
At a small celebration that the city had organized in the branch office of the building authority, the town hall chief praised and thanked the protagonists for their success.
The district town submitted a three-minute film to the competition of the Federal Environment Ministry and the German Institute for Urban Studies and was one of the three winners.
New bikes and booking system
"We see the award as an opportunity and an obligation to continue on the path we have chosen creatively and with commitment in the direction of climate-friendly mobility," said Raff and announced what the city is planning to do with the prize money.
"We will expand the free rental system to include two more types of cargo bikes and the introduction of a digital booking system."
Promotion for bikes also honored
Ultimately, not only was the free rental of cargo bikes awarded, but also the city's funding program.
The district town has been promoting the private purchase of various types of bicycles since 2019 by assuming 25 percent of the

This year, 40,000 euros in funding have already been granted, reported Raff.
"We will continue on this path."
