Twelve meters high and weighing more than 700 kilos: Marienplatz in Wolfratshausen is once again adorned with a stately Christmas tree.

Wolfratshausen - “Here it comes.” Matthias Schmidberger, manager of the Wolfratshauser Stadtwerke's building yard, points to the truck that is just turning into the market with its freight from Bahnhofstrasse.

“He”, that is an approximately 25-year-old fir tree, around 12 meters high and weighing between 700 and 800 kilograms - and this year's Christmas tree in Loisachstadt.

The Waldramer couple donated the Christmas tree

The fir was felled only a few hours earlier in Waldram.

“It was donated to us by a married couple,” says Schmidberger.

The operations manager recorded eight tree offers this year.

“And that was the most suitable.” Before the tree can shine in the glow of lights, precision work is required first.

Because the diameter of the trunk rarely fits exactly into the stand.

“We need 20 centimeters in diameter.

A good nine centimeters have to go ”, Schmidberger measures the fir tree hanging from the crane.

After just under an hour, the Christmas tree is up

Colleague Daniel Sitte is ready, chainsaw in hand. Piece by piece, he cuts off thin strips around the end piece. Schmidberger reaches for the yardstick again. "Another three centimeters." So, restarted the saw and again around the trunk. Franz Fischer, who operates the crane, maneuvers the good piece into the stand. “Turn a little bit,” the yard manager calls out to him. After all, the beautiful side should be facing forward. The trunk slowly slides into the stand, a few more fine-tuning - it fits. "We have it again for this year," says Sitte. “And how are we in time?” The handful of onlookers look at the clock as if on command. "You were good. "Exactly 56 minutes from arrival to finished installation."

No final decision has yet been made in Wolfratshausen with a view to the Christmas market.

It would take place on the first weekend in Advent.

But that is currently unlikely.

The last word has Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner, who wants to comment on the subject on Tuesday (November 16).

The municipal market master, David Wehner, had already informed the Wolfratshauser associations last Thursday by e-mail that the Christmas market is likely to fall victim to the corona pandemic for the second time in a row after 2020.
