The July-September 2021 quarter should have been the zenith of Japanese growth.
The Tokyo Olympics would rain down state and corporate coffers the billions generated by the event, from sales of televisions, hotel nights, train tickets and other ancillary products.
Instead, it was its nadir: the government announced a decline in growth at an annualized rate of 3% over this period and 0.8% compared to the previous quarter.
A poor performance far below what economists expected.
As for the Olympic Games - apart from a new air route over Tokyo which is tympanizing its inhabitants - they left ... nothing, say the most severe critics.

The Covid-19 has been there.
If Japan has never entered a state of French emergency, it still forced the inhabitants of its metropolises to restrict their exits.
