Today, the People’s Assembly’s Budget and Accounts Committee discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its affiliates for the year 2022, amounting to 71 billion pounds and 692 million and 600,000 Syrian pounds.
The chairman and members of the committee called for developing a national plan for higher education, supporting the scientific research item in the ministry’s budget, giving it the required importance, reconsidering the mechanism of drug procurement, paying attention to the ministry’s higher institutes, and appointing the first graduate.
They also called on the ministry to enable renewable energy projects in all universities and their affiliated bodies, in addition to the need to improve the reality of university housing and solve the overcrowding crisis by raising the amounts allocated to some projects.
In response to the members’ questions, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, explained that there are more than 23 institutions, bodies and hospitals affiliated with the ministry. The investment budget was distributed among these institutions, as each university and hospital allocated an amount to be distributed to priority projects, maintenance and rehabilitation works, and the purchase of all Necessary supplies for the educational process.
With regard to the issue of the mechanism of drug retrieval, the Minister of Higher Education explained that this mechanism has been evaluated and work is underway to correct it to serve the interests of citizens in coordination with the concerned authorities.
The committee also discussed the investment budget for the institutions of the Ministry of Defense and its affiliated directorates.
