Penzberg - In the last home game before the winter break against SC Pöcking-Possenhofen, FC Penzberg achieved their third three in a row with a 3-0 win.
"Three weeks ago we were still in the shit, now we are out of the valley," said Wagner after the work victory against the uncomfortable penultimate, who had recently drawn against some better placed teams.
Newcomer Max Berwein, who also stood up for the team against Pöcking and was involved in all three goals, also played a major role in the upswing among the Penzbergers.
"He's someone who has no starry airs," said Wagner, praising the former regional league player, to whom he didn't assign a fixed position as a freelance artist.
That turned out to be a smart move, as Berwein, with his physical presence and his playful abilities, is difficult to calculate and represents an extreme danger for any opposing defense.
Leadership out of nowhere
The Penzberger found it difficult to get into the game against the relegation-threatened guests.
Pöcking recorded two top-class opportunities through Max Hartmann, who failed free-standing against FCP keeper Korbinian Neumaier, and Robin Kergls, who almost used Neumaier's mistake to score a goal.
“We were lucky”, admitted Wagner, whose team took the lead more or less out of nowhere.
After a clear attack by Berwein and a confusion in the guest defense, FCP captain Maxi Kalus (26th) hit with a low shot from the edge of the box to make it 1-0.
After that, the home side slowly took over the command, but without being able to extend their lead.
After the break, the guests made the game a little more open again until Berwein came back on the scene.
He put his opponent Marvin Schleyerbach (73rd) under such pressure in front of the SC box that he pushed a cross to make it 2-0 into his own network.
Subsequently, Pöcking tried to generate more pressure.
This created space for counterattacks and one of them was used by substitute Durim Gjocaj (83rd), on strong preparatory work from Berwein, to the 3-0 final point.
Gjocaj had already scored a joker goal against Raisting the previous week.
