in the center of San Salvador, at the end of October. Dozens of people gathered to call on the government to act against enforced disappearances. Plagued by gangs, El Salvador is known to be one of the most violent countries in the world. For five years, the country has recorded a drop in homicides, but this figure obscures a more silent violence, such as extortion, the control of entire districts of the city or enforced disappearances.
That of the young footballer Jimena Ramirez, on October 24, is the latest in a series that has scandalized the country.
Last May, a clandestine grave containing about forty bodies was discovered in the small town of Chalchuapa.
