Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and German Acting Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the migrant crisis on the borders between Belarus, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
The Belarusian agency BELTA stated that the phone conversation between the two sides today "lasted about 50 minutes and touched on the prospects for solving the problem of migrants and work to prevent an escalation of the situation at the borders, in addition to humanitarian support for refugees by providing aid to them."
The two sides agreed to maintain contacts between them to resolve the crisis.
In a related context, Lukashenko stressed that the new European Union sanctions against Belarus will be met with a strict response.
Lukashenko said during a meeting with the working group on the new draft constitution today: “Belarus is not responsible for creating the migrant crisis. on penalties.”
