Mercedes' electric flagship car here, with a range of up to 700 km, a lot of luxury and technology and a price accordingly. Starting at NIS 890,000

Mercedes' electric flagship car was launched in Israel yesterday.

If the Mercedes S-Class is considered the most advanced and best passenger car in the world, then the EQS should be the all-electric interpretation of this Mercedes ability.

And as it has done well over the years with the S-Series it seems that with the same approach Mercedes came to the EQS.

This is a completely new dedicated electric platform, one that will serve future models of course, stretching here on a tremendous length (521 cm) with a suitable wheelbase (321 cm).

The body itself is built in a "single arc" approach, free from traditional mechanical articles and achieves a particularly low drag coefficient (Cd 0.20).

There is also endless attention to detail, disappearing immediacy, through the unique headlights, front grille and more.

Two propulsion versions are presented here.

One is the EQS450 with an electric motor that produces 333 hp and drives the rear wheels.

The more powerful version, the EQS580 adds an engine that transmits its power to the front wheels, an arrangement that produces dual propulsion and an output of 523 hp.

The basic version (NIS 890,000) offers a declared range of 700 km while the more powerful one stands at 627 km.

Despite its enormous weight, about 2.5 tons, the EQS is capable of accelerating to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds in its basic version, or 4.3 seconds in the more powerful version and both are electronically limited to a maximum of 210 km / h.

The giant battery (107.8 kWh) can be charged at a fast charging position within half an hour up to 80 percent.

Of course, the cabin, and every other corner in this car, is loaded with technology.

If these are sensors, radar cameras that allow for level 3 autonomous driving (subject to legislative approval).

The active rear-wheel drive that produces a small A-class turning radius here.

Opening the door with hand gestures in the air and many more options.

Of course, in EQS you can find the Mercedes hyperscreen.

It comes as standard in the more powerful model and wraps the driver and passenger from front to side - a total of 141 cm that allow the driver to receive information, a huge screen in the center console and a designated area for the passenger.

At the rear, passengers can control certain functions with the help of an original tablet.

Gili Priante, CEO of Mercedes Israel, noted at the unveiling event:

“The EQS is the most advanced electric car in the world with a driving experience that combines luxury and groundbreaking technology.

It is also the first in Israel to be able to reach Tel Aviv from Eilat and back without the need to load

.

"

Priante added:

“Because based on the new architecture of the EQS, the EQE and SUV versions of the EQE and EQS will also be presented later, which will further expand the array of Mercedes luxury models.

In 2022, about 20% of Mercedes sales in Israel will be of electric models

.

The EQS is supposed to be a demonstration of ability, not to mention muscle exposure, towards the whole world and the proponents of electricity in particular.

It is supposed to contain everything that Mercedes has learned over more than 100 years of vehicle manufacturing.

And what has had to be learned very quickly, with the rest of the industry in recent years.

Is this the best electric car in the world today?

Answer yes, is a pretty safe bet.

After a test we will know the answer for sure.
