Opposition leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud) today (Monday) at the Likud faction meeting passed the bill to limit the prime minister's tenure approved by the Ministerial Committee on Legislation, and the bill preventing a person accused of crimes from forming a government.
Netanyahu called the proposals "Iranian and Syrian laws," and accused coalition leaders of harming the public will.
The justice minister responded to the remarks with disapproval and said that Netanyahu "lived in the movie."
"They are trying to pass an Iranian law that is supposed to lead to a situation where whoever wins the election will not win the election," Netanyahu accused, "but there is a problem with passing an Iranian law because what endangers them is that the public will be expressed. "A law restricting office that does not exist in any parliamentary democracy. In a democracy, the one who determines who will lead it is the public and not an arbitrary law that will transfer power to officials or politicians."

"It will not help them. It is impossible to stop the public. We will win, we will take all these laws and throw them in the trash, and we will return to the people the will of the people," Netanyahu continued.
"I say to Gideon [Saar, the Minister of Justice - YA], release the Wasah, stop the poses, everyone understands what you want to do both in the Knesset and in the media - accept the will of the people, in the end it is the only thing that will determine and decide."
Justice Minister Gideon Saar responded to remarks at the opening of a new Tikva faction meeting, and welcomed the approval of the law by the Ministerial Committee on Legislation.
"I am glad that all the government partnerships united yesterday to make an important amendment to the term of office," Saar said.
"I heard the nonsense of the opposition leader who said it does not exist in any parliamentary democracy.
Netanyahu sent me emissaries only a few months ago to form a government and suggested that I enact a law restricting tenure and even agreed to enact it retroactively so that he would have only a few years left to serve.
Apparently a few months ago it was democratic and now it has suddenly become undemocratic.
Netanyahu lives in the film, does not know whether it is an Iranian film or a Syrian film.
There is a huge majority of Israelis who support this law.
We will pass this law and Netanyahu will not be able to repeal it. "

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, also addressed the issue at the beginning of the Yesh Atid faction meeting.
"We promised and kept," Lapid said of advancing the law.
"There is a future that has been fighting for this law since its inception. That is why we have formed a government. To do all the things we promised the citizens of Israel."
"This is not the end of the process, there is another way to do it, but if you want to change the country - this is the way. Form a government, pass a budget, then go and start fulfilling the promises one by one. We pass this law together with Justice Minister Gideon Saar, who led A smart and precise move. Working together, in close dialogue. Just as we passed the budget with Minister Lieberman, and we will transfer the burden of equality with Minister Ganz. There is also an advantage in the complex structure of this government. He forces us to talk. The Israeli has always said: Let us concentrate on our common goals, not on what separates and divides, "said Lapid.
