The fire brigade also had to help.

Freising

- From Freising to Ingolstadt, from Bad Aibling to Freising: In the tense Corona situation, the clinic is increasingly affected by patient transfers.

The most extreme case so far was the transport of a Covid patient to South Tyrol - an enormous, hour-long effort that not only the rescue service but also the volunteer fire brigade had to cope with because there was no longer any free intensive care bed in Freising.

“I received a call from the integrated control center at 7.55 am asking whether we could accompany the relocation from Freising to Merano with our personnel carrier,” reports Gerhard Hochleitner, commander of the Moosburg fire brigade.

Because the ambulance that the patient was in could not store so much oxygen, an escort vehicle was sought.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Hochleitner had just 30 minutes to transport two emergency services and a suitable vehicle.

"That was pretty sporty," says Hochleitner.

“Fortunately, we have an extremely stable connection to the city, so we got the green light very quickly.

Our equipment control room refueled and off we went. "

Oxygen had to be exchanged again and again

In a convoy of two, ambulances and fire service vehicles set off - with flashing lights and, if necessary, using the siren to keep the arduous journey as short as possible for the patient. Nevertheless, breaks had to be taken again and again, as fire brigade press spokesman Thomas Rödl announced. “The containers for the medical oxygen in the ambulance had to be replaced at regular intervals. Great care was taken here, as the filled medical oxygen bottles were under pressure. ”At the same time, seamless ventilation of the seriously ill had to be ensured.

After all, the emergency services did not have to worry about a vignette on the outward journey.

"We drove ahead shortly before the border and registered the transport there, so that, as an exception, we could carry out the transit without a vignette." However, a toll was then due on the return journey.

The emergency services were back in Moosburg at 9 p.m. - at the end of a long day.

Patients are now being forced to occupy

And what would have happened if there had been a large fire service in Moosburg?

The trip to South Tyrol was only possible because the operational readiness could be maintained on site, emphasizes Hochleitner.

"Fortunately, we have enough powerful emergency vehicles and forces available to compensate for such an operation."

The rescue service also had long journeys in the past week.

Because the hospitals were full of corona patients, the BRK had to drive some patients to Regensburg and Obers-torf to accommodate them, reported Hubert Böck from the BRK.

“With the result that the vehicles and emergency services were missing on site.” In the meantime, however, the control centers have received new specifications.

"The motto is now again to drive every patient to the nearest suitable hospital in order to forcefully admit them there, because every clinic is full anyway."
