Burgberg - With a narrow defeat and a wafer-thin victory, the Burgberg volleyball players collect points away and thus conquer the top of the table.
It was the expected difficult journey for the volleyball players last weekend.
Long travel times, two game days in a row, stubborn opponents on the field, plus successful coach Robin Wirth not in the coaching bench, where coach assistant Susanne Kühn took her place.
But despite all the adversities, Burgberg's volleyball players also scored in the fourth and fifth game of the season in a row and sat down with a bitter, because extremely narrow, 2: 3 defeat against FC-DJK Tiefenbach and a subsequent, wafer-thin 3: 2 success against the TSV TB Munich II with ten points on the points account for the first time at the top of the Bayernliga Süd table.
Hotly contested match
But the effort that the TSV volleyball players had to make for the three away points was great.
On Saturday, the team already had about 400 kilometers of travel in their bones when the kick-off for the game against the Lower Bavarians rang out in Tiefenbach at 4 p.m., who were already promoted to the Bavarian League in 2019.
A hotly contested match developed with constantly changing advantages for both sides.
In the fourth set the Burgbergers, after a strong comeback in round two and three, then had their opponents on the verge of defeat when they unfortunately couldn't close the bag after a 5-0 lead at the end of the set.
Rather, they awarded several match points and finally had to give up the set with 25:27.
Strong three-man block of opponents
In the fifth and decisive sentence, after the strenuous journey, the guests from Oberallgäu simply lacked the strength to prevail against the very defensive Tiefenbach women who made life difficult for the Allgäu women, especially with a very efficient and strong block of three.
In the end, the protégés of player-coach Kühn “only” had one point after a lot of physical effort.
With this mortgage, after another 200 kilometers and a night in the hotel, they went to the second leg against TSV Turnerbund Munich in the north of the state capital.
Against the Munich team, led by player-coach Marion Schütze, they managed a smooth 3-0 home win at the start of the season and it was clear to everyone that the Munich team wanted to return the favor for their opening defeat.
Exhaustion on both sides
But the guests from Oberallgäu actually got off to a better start again, who just managed to prevail in the first set with 27:25.
The TSV team benefited from the fact that the Munich women had played an exhausting five-set game the day before, but at the end of which they beat FSV Marktoffingen 3-2.
Both teams were similarly burdened, which was reflected in the course of the game.
Because like the day before against Tiefenbach, the momentum fluctuated back and forth between the teams.
The narrow set win in the first was followed by a significant set loss in the second round.
The third, in turn, went to Burgberg again, who were clearly defeated again in the fourth.
Tie break
And so there was another tie-break for both teams this weekend, which the guests from Oberallgäu - with strong will and last effort - were able to win with 15:13.
After the weekend, coach Kühn and “her” team agreed in their assessment: Both game days were exhausting and nerve-wracking for everyone involved.
But a look at the table compensates for all the hardships, because at least until the next match day, TSV Burgberg - for the first time in this Bayern league season - is in the top position.
