The entry gate of the Kowloon Tong MTR station was damaged by petrol bombs two years ago. Four men were accused of being involved in the case and arrested. One of the men admitted to the District Court today (15th) that they had conspired to arson and possessed firearms without a license. There were 4 crimes in total. The case alleged that he placed two bottles of gasoline in front of the turnstile on the same day, and someone approached them to ignite them shortly afterwards, causing a fire.

The defense pleaded that the defendant knew that his actions had violated the law and had sincere remorse, and he had returned for nearly two years.

The judge adjourned his case until December 28 for further plea.

The first defendant, Zeng Yusheng (26 years old, delivery man), pleaded guilty to four counts of conspiracy to arson, possession of items with intent to destroy or damage property, possession of offensive weapons, and possession of firearms without a license.

The charge is that he conspired to use fire to destroy the property of others and endanger the lives of others in Hong Kong on October 12, 2019; he was also accused of possessing 5 petrol bombs, 11 bottles of petrol, 1 pack of white towels, and 5 petrol bombs in his residence on the same day. A stylus, 3 hammers, 1 pocket knife, a knife, and a can of sprayer containing harmful chemicals.

The other three defendants denied the charge and were tried: Huang Hanwei (30 years old, Party Room shop owner), Zheng Weisen (33 years old, self-employed) and Wang Jinfa (40 years old, construction worker) denied being tried for conspiracy to arson.

According to the case, in the afternoon of the incident, a MTR staff found a fire at the gate G1 of Kowloon Tong Station. The staff immediately put out the fire and called the police. The repair cost of the gate blackened by the fire was 84,000.

Passengers witnessed a man in black running away from the fire scene.

There were CCTV footage showing that two bottles of gasoline were put down in front of the turnstile and then left. Later, another man approached and lit the two bottles of gasoline.

Before the incident, there was a CCTV filmed meeting with the man who lit the petrol bomb in the park.

After Zeng was arrested, the police searched his residence and found petrol bombs, gasoline and other items. One of the black sprays found toxic chemicals that could cause a burning sensation.

The defense pleaded that he had been remanded in custody for nearly two years and had sincere remorse and knew that his behavior had violated the law and discipline. He hoped that the court would consider his nature and the items involved in the case were not found at the demonstration site, and other factors, and give a lighter sentence.
