Some parents in Waakirchen would like to have a forest kindergarten in their community.

The topic has now reached the local council - the idea is currently being examined.

Waakirchen

- pine cones instead of duplo blocks, tree stumps instead of dolls' corners: in the forest, children play with what nature has to offer.

A forest kindergarten could be the right thing for her daughter Farina, 15 months old, says Pia Windschüttl from Waakirchen.

She is not alone in wanting to have such an offer in Waakirchen.

Green councilor is campaigning for the forest kindergarten

The young parents turned to the green councilor Cornelia Riepe, who has been campaigning for the establishment of a forest kindergarten ever since.

In the spring, Riepe brought her request to Mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG).

Now in the fall she asked for a state of affairs which Kerkel presented at the November meeting of the community council.

It would be possible to add a forest group to existing kindergartens

As Kerkel reported, there is definitely a need for additional kindergarten places.

It would be conceivable to add a forest group to existing kindergartens.

Talks with the leaders of the parish and church kindergartens had taken place in this direction.

The planning has not made any further progress so far.

As Kerkel explained, the idea will be examined.

When Riepe asked who was the contact person for the parents, Kerkel said: "The parents can contact me."

A parents' initiative for the forest kindergarten is currently not being considered

The parents are not thinking of founding an initiative that will itself run a forest kindergarten.

"Such a great effort is not affordable for working parents with small children", say the green councilors Riepe and Evi Obermüller with conviction.

This also became clear during discussions with the founders of the Schliersee forest kindergarten.

After all, the association to be founded would also have to hire employees and run the kindergarten in such a way that all regulations are met, Riepe makes clear.

However, the parents are ready to support the search for a plot of land and the provision of a construction trailer.

Greens are promoting the idea of a forest kindergarten

The green municipal councilors want to promote the basic idea of a forest kindergarten.

"In the forest as a habitat, children should find what is neglected in today's busy life," Riepe and Obermüller explain in a letter. Children also have to endure boredom in order to be active on their own.

The external lack of stimuli promotes creativity: "Studies show that these children are more independent and concentrated in school afterwards."

The first forest kindergarten at Tegernsee was opened in Bad Wiessee in 2015

For the community, a forest kindergarten also means a cost-effective alternative to care in a building, according to the paper.

Ultimately, there were no building costs, heating, cleaning and a lot more: "So this is also an attractive financial solution for the community."
