Will there be a surprise among the “small candidates”?
According to an Ifop survey * commissioned by the Animalist Party, and which

was able to consult, the movement's representative, Hélène Thouy, is credited with 2% of the voting intentions for the 2022 presidential election. She thus approaches the communist Fabien Roussel (2.5%), but ahead of some of his opponents, however more media-focused, such as Philippe Poutou (NPA; 0.5%), Nathalie Arthaud (LO; 0.5%), Jean Lassalle (Resist; 0.5% ) ... And even the former minister Arnaud Montebourg (ex-PS; 1%).

Still little known to voters - only 4% of French people identify her precisely - Hélène Thouy had already been the head of the list of her movement during the European elections of 2019. She then created a surprise by obtaining 2.2% of the vote , more than François Asselineau (UPR; 1.2%) or Nathalie Arthaud (LO; 0.8%), and almost as much as the Communist Party, led at the time by Ian Brossat (2.5%).

In a context where the animal question concerns many young people, Hélène Thouy has a small electoral potential which is not negligible.
She possibly does better than a lot of small candidates.
It remains to be seen whether it will obtain the 500 sponsorships that will allow it to participate in the election,

Macron in the lead, Hidalgo passes in front of Jadot
In this poll, Emmanuel Macron tops the list of voting intentions, with 23% in the first round.
Marine Le Pen occupies the second position, with 17%.
It is closely followed by the quasi-candidate Éric Zemmour, who is credited with 15%.
In the absence of a nominated candidate, the LR label collects 12.5% of the voting intentions.

Regularly given above Anne Hidalgo in opinion polls, the ecologist Yannick Jadot is credited with only 6% of the voting intentions in this poll, while the socialist candidate is at 7%.

It is possible that Jadot could suffer from an animalist candidacy, even if the escape of environmentalists will probably be limited

* The survey was conducted with a sample of 915 people registered on the electoral rolls, taken from a sample of 1,001 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured by the quota method (sex, age, profession of the person questioned) after stratification by region and category of agglomeration.
