TEST - The latest Losange minivan gets a new feature that makes all the difference. You had to think about it. The van version of the last Renault Kangoo offers a variation that does not require a middle pillar, on the right side. You had to think about it. The van version of the last Renault Kangoo offers a variation that does not require a middle pillar, on the right side. Billed at 1200 euros, this innovation greatly facilitates lateral access since, between the front door which opens at 90 degrees and the rear door which slides over a large amplitude, the opening reaches 1416 mm, twice that of the previous version. A record! This system, called “Open Sesame by Renault”, thus simplifies loading and unloading operations in confined spaces. In town, when parked, the back door is very often inaccessible. To access this innovation, the passenger seat folds up into a portfolio. The operation is a bit tedious:you must first remove the head restraint, then lift and tilt the seat base and fold down the seat back. Then you have to rotate the mesh partition that separates the cargo space from the cabin.

This configuration creates a perfectly flat space to accommodate objects up to 3.05 meters long.

The engineers have really thought of everything since the passenger seat has lashing rings to ensure the maintenance of the transported material.

Still, the three-seater bench (+ 540 €) is not compatible with the Open Sesame version.

To this design intelligence, Renault adds 60 liters of storage distributed in the cabin, between the overcab under the roof (19.4 l), the central space of the dashboard (5 l), the door bins and the box closed in front of the driver (1.5 l).

The latter incorporates two USB sockets.

In this version with a swiveling mesh wall, the loading volume can reach 3.9 m3.

Loaded space, when you take the road, the Kangoo Van seduces for its sedan approval, resulting from a design based on the platform of the last Scenic. This translates into enhanced comfort, whether acoustic, vibratory or suspension. The driving position can be adjusted more easily than before thanks to a steering wheel now adjustable in two sections. The seats are also reinforced with comfortable foam. As a result, driving this Kangoo for long distances is not a chore. Contact with the Kangoo Express enabled us to measure the progress made in terms of approval. With the 115 hp dCi diesel engine, performance is as good as that of a minivan. 100 km / h is reached in 12.04 seconds and the top speed is set at 175 km / h.The times also benefit from a torque of 270 Nm at 1750 rpm. This brilliant engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission but the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is available. Particularly economical, this diesel is approved at 5.3 l / 100 km, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 136 g / km.

Professionals who circulate mainly in the city may orient themselves towards the E-Tech Electric version presented at the Solutrans exhibition in Lyon.

This zero-emission model relies on a 90 kW (122 hp) electric motor powered by a 45 kWh battery placed under the floor.

The range could reach up to 300 km in the best case.

With the 80 kW rapid charger, it will be possible to recover 170 km of range in 30 minutes.

Note that the electric traction chain has no impact on the loading volume, identical to that of the thermal versions, whose price starts at 25,680 euros (Tce 100) with the magic door.
