90 young people with Down Syndrome, their profession today was making pastries and sweets with a simple atmosphere and words filled with joy that they expressed during this training activity at the headquarters of the Al-Rajaa Charitable Association in Aleppo.
The ages of the young people ranged between 14 and 23 years old. They were divided into 6 groups to undergo a training course in pastry making at a rate of two sessions per week, according to the director of the association, Fatima Babli, who explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the number of members of the association is 420 children and adolescents of different age groups and types of disabilities, and they are rehabilitated educationally and professionally. Develop their skills and put some of them on the line to enter the labor market.
Babli indicated that 90 people with Down syndrome were chosen to be trained on the profession of making pastries and sweets, and to introduce them to the stages of production, from preparing the dough to how to cut, bake and decorate it, pointing out that the aim is to enable them to be active people who are able to challenge the disability.
For her part, Chef Jumana Abdel Hai pointed out their role in teaching young people to make pastries and sweets according to accurate professional foundations that suit their mental abilities, stimulate their teamwork spirit and encourage them to work like other ordinary people.
It is noteworthy that the association has been working to rehabilitate people with disabilities since childhood and provide them with scientific and educational knowledge. A number of its affiliates participated in the Special Olympics for Sports in bicycle races, swimming and gymnastics, and won many gold medals.
