Damascus-SANA

The Harp instrument, by the names of the academic musician, Rahaf Sheikhani, was the star of the classical musical evening, which was hosted this evening by the Drama Theater at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts.

The evening came within the keenness of Rahaf, the main harp player in the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra and the instrument teacher at the Higher Institutes of Music and Salhi al-Wadi, to present the harp to the recipients in an academic and renewed artistic way, whether in terms of solo playing or by playing the solo with the orchestra, which I translated through this evening.

The evening programme, which varied between eastern and western, was attended by academic players on the oud, Kinan Adnawi, the clarinet Sima Shehabi, and the violinist Arwa Sheikhani.

Rahaf, who has a master's degree in harp performance from the Conservatoire of Santa Cecilia in Italy, opened the evening with a piece of music composed by Mohamed Othman entitled Rondo.

In the second piece, the harp and oud duo performed a piece composed by Adnawi, which was distinguished by its adoption of new forms, methods and techniques, and this is what Adnawi, who holds a master’s degree in music from the University of New England in Boston, America, dedicates with the oud in many musical occasions.

After that, Rahaf performed for the music composer Khachaturian entitled “An Oriental Dance and Tokata” and for the author “Sweet in Georgia”, which included pieces “Alazani River Valley, the Whirlpool and the Castle in the Mountain and on Eid”.

Among the folklore of Eastern Europe, Rahaf played a piece of Roman dances by the author Bartok, which included dances “the stick and the scarf and in one spot and from a posium, a Roman polka and a fast dance”, with the participation of Shehabi, the main clarinet player in the symphony since 2004.

Chardash's piece by Monty was presented by Rahaf with violin solo by Arwa Sheikhani, who plays with the Syrian Symphony, the Syrian National Band for Arab Music and other groups, as well as her participation with the orchestra of the radio station in Cologne, Germany.

The evening concluded with the performance of a piece by author Walter Kohn entitled “Fantasia, composed by Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin”.
